How To Write More A Day

April 19, 2018

The best way to write more each day, is to simply sit down at your desk and start writing. Schedule blocks of time throughout your day when you can sit at your computer with no distractions, and write. Even if you have no idea what you want to write about. If you sit down and start typing randomly, you may not come up with anything, or you may come up with something great. Sometimes, I sit in my chair and start to surf the internet, or read friends’ blogs, or check out posts on my favorite message boards, because I am just not motivate to type any words on my screen. I have found that once I start writing, the words usually just start to flow, and I don’t want to stop writing. In fact, in one day, I wrote over 15 pieces of internet content, after suffering from Writer’s Block for over two weeks.

Sometimes, the hardest part of writing, is just finding the energy to get started.

It also helps to set goals. This past January, I set a goal of typing and submitting 2 pieces of internet content per day for the entire month. Even with working a full-time job, I met my goal with no problems. In February, I decided that it was time to take a break since I had worked so hard in January, so I didn’t set any goals for that month. I only submitted about 15 pieces of content for publication. This made me feel guilty, and didn’t help my checkbook much, either. If you proceed without a goal, it’s easy to get lost, and get nothing done. If you have a specifically defined goal that you are working to, you are more likely to accomplish great things. So, set a goal for yourself. Do you want to submit 5 articles to print magazines or newspapers this month? How about a word goal for a novel you are working on? Maybe you want to do 10,000 words on your novel, or maybe you want to do a early (or late) NaNoWriMo and write 50,000 words?

Whatever your goals are, the key is to just get started. Start writing. If you don’t meet your goals, don’t beat yourself up. Don’t let the guilt get to you – we all are just doing the best we can. Just sit down and re-visit your plans, make any necessary changes, and keep going. Good luck!
